Synopsis
Adapted from the novel by Hawaian writer Kaui Hart Hemmings, “The Descendants” is set in Hawai following the fortunes of Matt King (George Clooney) after his thrill-seeking wife suffers a boating accident and is left in a coma. It is then he realises he barely knows his daughters -10 year old Scottie and 17-year old Alexandra (Shailene Woodley). It is his story of getting to know and understand his daughters that the film is concerned with. |

Verdict
From Master of delicate emotions Alexander Payne (“SIDEWAYS”, “ABOUT SCHMIDT”) comes “The Descendants”- a delicate cocktail of finely attuned emotional truths which are played with heart and soul.George Clooney is at his very best as the Father, while young Shailene Woodley is a revelation as his seemingly stroppy older daughter. Filmed beautifully in Hawai by Phedon Papamichael, THE DESCENDANTS is a lovingly observed study of loss and the gaining of wisdom. |
