Synopsis
Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) is a management consultant specialising in firing people for companies that are downsizing. His work means he flies constantly round the country. Faced by a threat posed by Natalie (Anna Kendrick), a new recruit with a plan to introduce video links which would effectively ground Bingham, he talks his way into one last trip, in which he will show Natalie the ropes and persuade his boss to stick with the status quo. |

Verdict
After the great success of “Thank you for Smoking” and “Juno”, director Jason Reitman fulfils his early promise with this marvellous, wittly observant view of corporate angst and frequent flying. George Clooney has never been better as the rootless hero of the piece whose liaisons with Alex (Vera Farmiga) instills in him the possibilities of abandoning his lifestyle. Beautifully mounted and full of wonderful touches, “Up in the Air” is a modern comedy drama which deals with the firing of people in an intelligent and sensitive way. Director Jason Reitman shows empathy for his characters, making them fully rounded and easy to believe in. A shoo in for Oscar success, “Up in the Air” will take you to the heights of pleasure. |
